Mismatch in rapid renewable power addition and demand growth in India
India is adding more renewable power to the grid than the actual demand, which is straining the grid, increasing the transmission charges, causing a rise in the effective price in the electricity. The renewable power output grew in its fastest pace in the first half of 2025. The country achieved 50% of its installed electricity capacity from non-fossil fuel sources earlier this year, amid its target of adding 500 gigawatts by 2030.
